Print one test page on plain paper, hold it over a label sheet, and adjust if the barcodes sit off-centre. "Skip used labels" starts printing after labels already peeled off a partly used sheet.

    When to use EAN-8

EAN-8 is the short version of the retail barcode, about two-thirds of the width of an EAN-13. GS1 recommends it only when an EAN-13 really doesn't fit on the pack, for example when the printable area is smaller than about 40 cm².

EAN-8 numbers (GTIN-8) are issued one by one by your national GS1 office; they are not built from a company prefix. Numbers starting with 0 or 2 are reserved for use inside a company, such as in-store codes.

How to make EAN-8 barcodes in bulk

    1. Paste one number per line: 7 digits, or 8 with the check digit. Add a Tab or comma and the product name if you want it printed.
    2. Keep EAN-8 selected and pick a label size. Small labels such as Avery 5167 suit EAN-8.
    3. Download the PDF and print at 100%.

How many digits does an EAN-8 have?

Eight: seven data digits and a check digit. Enter 7 and the check digit is added; enter 8 and it is checked.

Can I turn an EAN-13 into an EAN-8?

No. EAN-8 numbers are separate numbers, not shortened EAN-13s. For a smaller US barcode, UPC-E can compress some UPC-A numbers.

    Do checkouts scan EAN-8?

Yes. Retail scanners read EAN-8 alongside EAN-13 and UPC.
